Being overweight or obese can have numerous negative effects on physical health, mental well-being, and overall quality of life. Health risks associated with being overweight or obese are increased risk of chronic diseases. Obesity is a major risk factor for developing various chronic diseases.
Obesity increases the risk of conditions such as coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, and Type 2 diabetes. Obesity is associated with an increased risk of several types of cancer, including breast, colon, endometrial, kidney, and pancreatic cancer. Excess weight can lead to respiratory problems such as sleep apnea, asthma, and obesity hypoventilation syndrome. Obesity puts additional strain on the joints and can contribute to conditions such as osteoarthritis, back pain, and musculoskeletal problems.
